CHS Sends Young Engineers to VEX Robotics Tournament

On Saturday, February 1, CHS Middle School students participated in their very first VEX Robotics Tournament at Weston High School.  It was an all-day event with 65 high school and middle school teams from CT, RI, MA, and NY.  Some of the top high school teams in the state were in attendance.

Ella, Claire, Lulu, Melissa, Fred, and Declan comprised two teams representing CHS.  One team placed sixth of 65 teams at the end of the qualifying rounds but was eliminated in the first round of the tournament.  Team 61919A (Fred and Declan) were awarded the Judges’ Award, which is an award given out by the judges to the team that displays perseverance and grit.

All the students were encouraged by other coaches who admired how much they have accomplished in just a short period of time in their first season and first competition.

VEX Robotics is a Middle School elective offered at CHS 2 times a week.  The top two teams in the class participated in the event- and we hope to have more competing next year!  Through this experience, students are learning the basics of the engineering process, programming, and most importantly, working together as a team.
