CHS Senior Rachel Brooks: Research accepted for medical journal publication.
We are extremely proud of senior Rachel Brooks' unbelievable accomplishment of having a paper accepted for publication in the prestigious medical journal, Rheumatology!
She explains, "In October, my research abstract was featured as a poster presentation at the international Ehlers-Danlos Society ECHO Virtual Scientific Summit for Medical Professionals. . . . Recently I received notification that my paper, titled “Prevalence of Gastrointestinal, Cardiovascular, Autonomic, and Allergic Manifestations in Hospitalized Patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome,” has been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed medical journal Rheumatology. Published by Oxford University Press, Rheumatology is one of two official journals of the British Society for Rheumatology. I am the first author of the research paper, as well as corresponding author."
Science Department Chair Dr. Dan Cote writes, "It is hard for me to overstate the magnitude of Rachel's accomplishments related to work that began as part of her junior science fair project. The acceptance of the work of a high school student into these prestigious journals is virtually unheard of. Many would have set aside their projects after the science fair was complete. But Rachel has persevered, continued her research, made important contacts with fellow researchers, and achieved a very high level of visibility for her important work. I look forward to hearing about the fantastic work that I am sure Rachel will do in college and career. I am sure the entire CHS community joins me in congratulating Rachel on a job well done."
