Dear Parents,

The following are announcements and upcoming events.

NEWS FROM OUR DEVELOPMENT OFFICE:

TONY DUNGY AT CHS!
This just in! Tony Dungy, former professional football player and coach is coming to CHS! On Saturday, December 11, this NFL legend will talk about his Christian faith and career. This will be a morning event, in the gym, and more details will be sent out as they become available. In the meantime, if you are willing to promote the event this fall at your church and/or in men’s ministry groups, please contact Lisa Holeva at lholeva@kingsmen.org or 203.261.6230 ext. 590.

HELP CHS WIN $500,000!
Kohl’s is donating $500,000 to 20 schools for a total of $10 million in the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® $10MM Giveback Contest! This is a Facebook campaign and the 20 schools with the most votes are eligible to win. CHS has entered the contest and we need YOU to vote! Please tell your family and friends…we need as many votes as we can get! FOLLOW THIS LINK TO PLACE YOUR VOTE: http://www.kohlscorporation.com/AboutKohls/AboutKohls01.htm

CHS FALL TAG SALE
Saturday, September 11 is the day of the CHS Fall Tag Sale. Both volunteers and item donations are needed, as follows:

ITEM DONATIONS
Got stuff? Furniture, clothing, household items, toys, and other items of any kind (not including computer equipment and skis) that are in good condition are welcome! The item drop off day is Friday, September 10. If you’d like a receipt for tax purposes, just complete an Item Donation Inventory Form (attached). Copies of this form will also be available at the drop off table the day before the sale.

VOLUNTEERS
Please consider helping for a few hours…we really need you! Many hands make light work and we especially could use assistance from 1:30–3:30pm on Saturday to clean up from the sale and take items to charity, when the Tag Sale team’s energy is waning! Volunteering is an easy way to get involved and support CHS. In addition, the sale is an outreach to the community and is a lot of fun! For more information or to volunteer, please contact Lisa Caporaso (256.8984 or caporaso@sbcglobal.net) or Lisa Holeva. Shifts include:

* Set up, pricing and sorting - Friday after school until 10pm
* Working the sale - Saturday 7:30am until 1:30pm
* Breaking down the sale and bringing extra items to charity - Saturday 1:30 until 3:30pm

THE HERITAGE GALA- SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30
It’s gala time again!! This annual event is a very special evening for CHS so please save the date and plan to attend! We are beginning our efforts to secure donations for both the live and silent auctions, and could use your help. Items of all kinds are welcome including gift certificates, gift baskets, services (painting, sewing, carpentry work, etc.), jewelry, vacation homes, antiques and collectibles, event tickets, crafts or Christmas items to name a few! For more information on how to donate, or to receive an auction procurement packet, please contact Lisa Holeva at 261.6230 ext. 590 or lholeva@kingsmen.org.

AND DON’T FORGET OUR eBAY EFFORT!
Helping CHS raise money through eBay is easy! For several years, CHS has been part of “eBay Giving Works”, a program dedicated to charity listings on eBay. To participate in the past, you would have needed to list items on eBay on your own, and you still can do that. But we now have volunteers who are willing to list items for you, and handle the photographing and shipping. For more details and information, please contact Lisa Caporaso (256.8984 or caporaso@sbcglobal.net) or Nick Adam ’84 (nickadam@sbcglobal.net).

Summer Math Skill Sharpener Books are available for parents to purchase. The web site is www.summerskills.com. Though this is not required for CHS students, it is strongly recommended for students who wish to prepare for the year ahead, as well as to strengthen skills acquired during the previous year. There is also a high school math booklet, which may be a great review for those taking the SAT. Books are $19 which include shipping and handling (answer keys are included). Please see Mrs. Reens (Math Department Chair) if you have any questions.

CHS has several tutors available over the summer months and provides a free place to meet! Rates are reasonable and the quality of instruction is outstanding. Please contact Martha Olson in Admissions or any of the CHS Principals for references and availability of faculty.

NEWS FROM OUR ADMISSIONS DEPARTMENT:

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
Are you interested in hosting an International Student? The Admissions Office has several opportunities for short term (one week, one weekend, one Saturday) or long-term (one semester or one year) host families. The students are in middle and high school, boys and girls. There is a host family stipend of approximately $700/month for long-term host families. Please contact Martha Olson in the Admissions office for details, molson@kingsmen.org or 203-261-6230 x555.

BUDDY FAMILIES NEEDED!
God is blessing CHS with many new students for next fall. One of the ways to keep admissions healthy is for current families to reach out to new families starting as soon as possible -- and throughout the summer. This is needed for both Upper and Lower School students. If you would like to help reach out to these new families, please contact Martha Olson in Admissions, molson@kingsmen.org or 203-261-6230, ext 555.
